Description
Bison is a general purpose parser generator that converts a grammardescription for an LALR(1) context-free grammar into a C program toparse that grammar. Bison can be used to develop a wide range oflanguage parsers, from ones used in simple desk calculators to complexprogramming languages. Bison is upwardly compatible with Yacc, so anycorrectly written Yacc grammar should work with Bison without anychanges. If you know Yacc, you shouldn't have any trouble usingBison. You do need to be very proficient in C programming to be ableto use Bison. Bison is only needed on systems that are used fordevelopment.
If your system will be used for C development, you should installBison.
The package contains also the -ly library sometimes used byprograms using Bison-generated parsers. If you are developing programsusing Bison, you might want to link with this library. This libraryis not required by all Bison-generated parsers, but may be employed bysimple programs to supply minimal support for the generated parsers.

If you download the Setup program of the package, any requirements forrunning applications, such as dynamic link libraries(DLL's) from the dependencies as listed below under Requirements, arealready included. If you download the package as Zip files, then you mustdownload and install the dependencies zip file yourself.Developer files (header files and libraries) from otherpackages are however not included; so if you wish to develop your ownapplications, you must separately install the required packages.

Installation, Usage and Help
Bison may be installed in any directory, provided the subdirectory structure is maintained. Native language support is also active.
Requirements
Requirements for running applications, excluding external onessuch as msvcrt.dll, perl, etc, are included in theSetup program and the dependencies zip file.
- Win32, i.e. MS-Windows 95 / 98 / ME / NT / 2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista / 2008 with msvcrt.dll and msvcp60.dll.If msvcrt.dll or msvcp60.dll is not in your Windows/Systemfolder, get them from Microsoft,or (msvcrt.dll only) by installing Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher.
